Shapes of Grief is an award-winning online grief education and training platform founded by Liz Gleeson, a Grief Specialist, psychotherapist, and researcher based in Greystones, Co. Wicklow. For over 20 years, the platform has delivered accredited continuing professional development (CPD) programmes to healthcare professionals worldwide, spanning foundation through to advanced and specialist certifications in grief and loss.


With a growing international audience, an established podcast with over 110 episodes, and a reputation for research based, compassionate education, Shapes of Grief had significant untapped potential to scale its income without proportionally scaling its time. Articulate Digital Business was engaged to provide digital strategy consultancy and implement a technical solution to realise that potential.

THE CHALLENGE

Despite a strong content library, a loyal professional audience, and a proven training methodology, Shapes of Grief faced limitations that were preventing scalable revenue growth:


  • Course delivery was heavily dependent on manual processes and direct facilitator involvement, limiting scale without increased time investment
  • No structured passive income streams were in place, revenue was tied directly to Liz's active availability
  • The existing digital infrastructure was not optimised to convert website visitors into enrolled learners autonomously
  • There was no dedicated learning management system (LMS) capable of handling course enrolment, progress tracking, certification, and payments end to end
  • The platform's rich content, spanning four course levels, podcast episodes, and specialist resources — was under monetised relative to its quality and reach


The core challenge was transforming a time intensive, expertise led educational business into a scalable digital learning platform that could earn revenue around the clock, independent of Liz's direct involvement.

THE SOLUTION

Articulate Digital Business provided a two part engagement: strategic digital consultancy to identify and design passive income opportunities, and technical implementation of a LearnDash Learning Management System to bring the strategy to life.


1. Digital Consultancy — Passive Income Strategy

  • Conducted a full digital audit of the existing Shapes of Grief website and content ecosystem to identify monetisation gaps
  • Developed a passive income roadmap structured around self paced course sales, tiered certification access, and recurring learner enrolments
  • Advised on pricing architecture across the four course levels to maximise conversion and reduce enrolment friction
  • Identified bundling and upsell opportunities  including the Professional Certificate pathway to increase average learner spend
  • Provided strategic guidance on positioning Shapes of Grief as a go to continuing professional development resource for healthcare professionals globally


2. LearnDash LMS Implementation

  • Implemented LearnDash, the leading WordPress based learning management system, tailored to the Shapes of Grief platform and learner journey
  • Configured four structured course levels - Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced, and Prolonged Grief Disorder as self contained, self paced learning pathways
  • Set up automated enrolment, progress tracking, and digital certificate generation so learners could complete and certify independently
  • Integrated payment processing to enable direct course purchases, removing the need for manual invoicing or administrative oversight
  • Connected The Staffroom - a peer learning and resource community within the LMS framework to increase learner retention and lifetime value
  • Enabled CPD point tracking and certification download, giving healthcare professionals the documentation they require for professional accreditation purposes

Grow Digital Voucher - Fund Your Digital Future
